The Golden Colorado Demonstration house was designed as a standard retro-fit package.   The problem with retrofits is the issue of running new wire.  At best, running new and additional cable is a very timely process.  Homes that currently have an alarm system make this process simpler.   This section of the web page will take you through the process of designing and installing a home automation system.
